query on a acupuncturist's comment
My mother had a Whipple operation Apr2014. Because of the slow recovery due to poor appetite, she started getting acupuncture from a lady physician of Chinese medicine Oct2014. She recently told my mother the scar on the stomach has changed from a jagged line to a straight one suggesting progress in healing of the wound inside. Her comment sounds quack-like to me. The skin is a v different organ from the pancreas/gut. How could one tell the condition of the internal wound from the scar on the skin especially that it was made 10 months ago? She has gradually gained the trust of my mother. I want to warn her but dread the possible consequences: she might 1) side with her, or 2) become disappointed and depressed from the sense of loss of hope.

Whipple's operation is usually for cancer of the pancreaticobiliary system. It is a kind of ultra major surgery, so recovery is expected to be long. Recovery also depends on underlying disease state and complication arising from the surgery, like diabetes after extensive pancreatic resection.
For Chinese medicine/acupuncture, it carries a different theory. As a western medicine physician, I can only tell you that scar may change shape/colour a bit after operation. It is due to scar tissue contraction during healing, there's nothing to do with the internal organ (in our western medicine theory).
I advise you to consult the surgeon in charge regarding the internal organ disease condition, especially if concerning about the tumour status.
